Hosted by Rambod Javan, Carnival Show brings established artists with diverse skills – from alternative and rap music to magic and stage performances – together in a creative competitive arena. Judging is conducted live by an audience of 500, encouraging dialogue and critical engagement with each performance.

The winner of the first season, Sina Saei, presents The Story of the history teacher as a musical rap performance. Revisiting parts of Amir Kabir’s life, he critiques contemporary Iranian society through music, rhythm, and stage presence, exploring themes such as politics, love, the role of women, and death. The performance allows the audience to engage with rap while connecting to an important part of Iran’s history.

As the artistic director, transforming complex rap material into a live stage performance is both challenging and exciting. The program develops across five episodes, each performed live for the audience while simultaneously being captured by multiple cameras for the streaming platform, requiring careful coordination of stage design and mise-en-scène across two very different mediums.

To address this, I focused on creating a minimalist visual environment and using movement to keep the stage dynamic, ensuring Sina Saei’s performance conveys energy to the live audience while remaining visually compelling on camera. The result is a multi-dimensional, interactive experience where music, dance, media, and performance engage the audience directly, while also expanding my technical knowledge and artistic expertise.
